For much of the very early life of the country journalism was, generally, honestly partisan, with papers lining up with numerous factions, ideological backgrounds, and politicians, promoting advocates and striking opponents. The Times itself belonged to this tradition when it linked here was cofounded, in 1851, by among the men that assisted create the Republican Event three years later on.
